Anabin (Anerkennung und Bewertung auslandischer Bildungsnachweise) is a database run by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) under the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education of Germany (KMK). It’s been around since 1997 and is free to browse.
How to Check Your Diploma in Anabin¶
Step 1: Go to anabin.kmk.org, select “Institutionen” (institutions)
Step 2: Find your university by country (Ukraine). Check the status:

ZAB (Zentralstelle fur auslandisches Bildungswesen) issues an official document - a Zeugnisbewertung (Statement of Comparability) - confirming your diploma’s equivalency.

1. Submitting documents without ENIC verification
WES will return your documents and ask you to go through verification. You’ll lose 2-3 weeks and postage both ways. Always start with ENIC.
2. Choosing ECE for Canadian immigration
ECE doesn’t issue ECA for IRCC. You’ll pay, get a report - and it’ll be useless for Express Entry. Check the list of designated organizations on the IRCC website.
3. Not checking anabin before ordering ZAB
If your institution already has H+ status and your degree shows “gleichwertig” - you might not need ZAB at all. Check for free before paying 208 EUR.
4. Sending documents without translation
